A policy manual everyone has opened is not the same as a policy manual everyone understood. Docutrain closes some of that gap by generating a multiple-choice quiz from a document's own content. Questions are written from the material, each one carries an explanation and page citations, and answers are graded on Docutrain's servers — so the answer key never reaches the reader's browser before they commit to a choice.
The shape is four steps. An owner admin generates a bank of questions, sized to the document's length: minimum 10, maximum 100. The admin switches the quiz on so a Quiz button appears in chat. A reader picks how many questions to answer and works through them one at a time with instant feedback. Each attempt draws a fresh random selection, ends with a review screen, and is recorded for the statistics.
Taking a quiz
When a quiz is available, a Quiz button with a graduation-cap icon sits among the document's chat tools; the tools menu describes it as Test your knowledge. Inside a collection, the same Quiz chip appears in the sidebar. It shows up only when the owner has turned the quiz on and the bank has finished generating. No account is needed on a publicly available document; a passcode-protected one asks for the passcode first.
Selecting Quiz opens a window headed How many questions? with the document's title. Pick 5, 10, 15, or 20 (10 is preselected) and choose Start Quiz, or Cancel. Lengths larger than the bank are not offered, so a short document may show fewer choices. Whichever you pick, questions are drawn at random from the larger bank, so two attempts rarely match.
The quiz opens in a full window titled with the document's name. Each question shows its text, options labeled A, B, C and so on, and a progress line such as Question 1 of 10 followed by a row of dots. Generated questions have five options; an edited one can have between two and six.
Select an option and your choice goes to the server for grading and locks immediately, with no changing your mind. Feedback appears below the options: Correct or Incorrect, the right option in green and a wrong pick in red, an explanation written from the document, and Page N citation chips you can hover to see the source passage.

Finish submits the attempt and opens a review screen: your score as a fraction such as 8 / 10, the percentage, and a short message (Perfect score! at 100 percent, Great job! at 80 or more, Good effort! at 60 or more, Keep practicing! below that). A Missed only checkbox filters to what you got wrong. Each question gets a green or red card showing Your answer, the Correct answer where you missed it, the explanation, and the same Page chips.
Attempts are unlimited. Retake Quiz loads a fresh selection. Every completed attempt is recorded, with anonymous attempts counted separately in the admin statistics. Starting attempts in rapid succession is rate-limited; if you see "Too many quiz sessions started. Please try again later.", wait a few minutes.
Generating and managing a quiz
Quiz management lives in the document editor: open a document and choose the Quiz tab in the Learning group, headed Quiz Management.
Three things gate it. Generating a bank requires the Pro plan or higher — on Free, Generate Quiz opens an Unlock quiz generation dialog with an Upgrade to Pro button. Existing banks stay readable after a downgrade; only generating a new one is blocked (plans and limits). The document must be fully trained, since questions come from its processed content. And the Quiz toggle in UI Options must be on before readers see anything.
With no questions yet, the tab shows Quiz questions need to be generated and a Generate Quiz button. Select it and it changes to Generating.... Docutrain sets the bank size itself — roughly one question for every two sections of content, within that floor of 10 and ceiling of 100, sampled across the whole document. Generation runs as a background job with automatic retries. A panel headed Generating quiz questions shows a progress bar, a summary such as 12 of 40 questions done · 28 remaining, elapsed time with an estimate, and Cancel Generation. If progress pauses, a small "Ns ago" indicator shows how long since the last activity. You can close the editor and watch from the dashboard; a typical document takes well under a couple of minutes.
Cancelling asks for confirmation in a Cancel Processing window; the status then reads Quiz generation cancelled and you can start again immediately. A run in flight can also be stopped from the dashboard's processing area with Cancel Quiz.
Once questions exist, a Regenerate button appears under Quiz Questions — "Regenerate questions based on document size." It replaces the entire bank, which is what you want after retraining. Old questions are retired rather than deleted, so past attempts and statistics stay intact. Regeneration is normally limited to once every seven days, and the message tells you when the bank was last generated and when the next run is allowed; administrators of the document's organization and platform administrators are exempt. Readers partway through an attempt when you regenerate may be unable to submit it, and can simply retake.
Reviewing and editing questions
The tab lists every question under Quiz Questions (N total) as numbered, collapsed rows. Expanding one shows the options with the right one highlighted and marked Correct, the Explanation, its Page chips, and a version badge such as v1 counting edits. For large banks a Show: selector sets rows per page (10, 25, 50, 100, or All), with Previous and Next beneath.
Edit lets you change the Question text, the Options (two to six, and which is the Correct answer), and the Explanation. Saving creates a new version; the previous one is retired but preserved, so a reader's past attempt still shows exactly the question they were asked. A question reading "No explanation (bank predates explanations — regenerate to add)" comes from an older bank.
There is no language or difficulty setting. Questions are written from the document's content, so they follow its subject matter and generally its language.
Statistics and switching it on
Once readers start, a Quiz Statistics panel reports Total Attempts (split authenticated and anonymous), Average Score, Highest Score, Lowest Score, Generated, and Total Questions. A Question Generation Stats panel adds the total generated and Questions per Attempt, 10 unless a reader picks another length.
Generating questions shows readers nothing by itself. The Quiz toggle in UI Options, in the Engagement section, is what puts the button in chat: "Quiz button next to keywords in the chat interface." It stays disabled until questions exist, and if it is on with an empty bank a note explains why nothing appears. It is available to owner admins as well as super admins; the rest of the display settings are in the document settings tour.
Four habits keep quizzes honest. Generate after training finishes, and regenerate after a retrain that changes content. Read the bank before turning the quiz on, fixing weak questions with Edit rather than regenerating everything. Mention the quiz in the document's welcome message. And watch the averages: a low average with an audience you know understands the topic usually points at confusing source material, which the Intelligence analytics can help you localize.
